Spiritualized Church Ministry

We, in the church, sell our successes, accomplishments, dedications, celebrations, and any other form of churchy self-promotion, by attaching God's name to it. We think that by spiritualizing whatever we're doing, we're justified in doing it, like we truly are giving glory to God just because we say we are. Well, we don't, and can't, give glory to God just because we say we are giving glory to God; our heart reveals the truth. And as Bry shared in a recent post, Matthew 6:21 declares that your heart is where your treasure is. Our heart, then, is with our projects and programs, for that is where our treasure truly is today in the church. Yes, it's a sad and dangerous place for us to be, in these last days. We think that by attaching spiritual relevance to what we're doing we can justify what we're doing. That's how we sell what we want to do in our own strength and will.
