Self-Help Christianity (part 3)

Self-help preachers are in abundance today. The ones I notice are on tv, because that's the only place I can see them. But I'm sure there are many out there. Take Joel Osteen in Houston, Texas, whose church just bought an old stadium. He preaches a self-help Christianity, proclaiming peace and happiness to anyone who will claim it for themselves. Or take Joyce Meyers, who preaches prosperity to those who will apply the spiritual and biblical principles found in Christianity. I call them motivational speakers, nothing more. They have watered down the nature of reality and stripped Christianity of knowing Christ intimately and being known by him in the same way. They have ignored the ugliness of the human sinful nature, and our need to be broken and humiliated. We need to be changed from the inside out. They are trying to change things from the outside. There are plenty of worldy motivational speakers who sound similar to these so-called preachers, just without the mention of Christ's name a few times. The problem with self-help preaching and teaching is ourselves! We are powerless to help ourselves. That's why Christ is our Savior; he came to save us!
